How battery figures are labeled
Every EV listing shows a battery figure, labeled so you can tell them apart:
- Tested is a battery capacity test on file for that exact VIN. 0 of the 55 EVs shown here have one.
- Estimated from displayed range (shown as “Displayed range”) compares the range that exact car shows at a full charge with its original EPA rating. It is a calculation for that VIN, not a lab test. 0 of 55.
- Typical estimate (shown as “Est. ~X%”) is the typical figure for a car of that model, age and mileage from published fleet data (TeslaTracker for Teslas, sharpened with its per-trim figures; Geotab for other EVs). It is not a measurement of the car itself, and you can request a report. 55 of 55.
- Similar Teslas display is the full-charge range comparable used Teslas show (same trim, year and mileage), from TeslaTracker, with how many cars it is based on. It describes similar cars, not that one. 8 of 55.
Used Tesla Model Y buying guide
The Model Y is Tesla's compact crossover, built on much of the Model 3's engineering with a taller body and a rear hatch. Deliveries began with the 2020 model year, and a refreshed Model Y followed for the 2026 model year. Versions include RWD, Long Range and Performance, and some years offered an optional third row.
Range, battery and charging
Each listing labels its battery figure as a battery test result, the full-charge range the car displayed when we recorded it, or a typical estimate for its age and mileage. Only a test measures the battery itself.
Teslas use Tesla's charge port, standardized as SAE J3400 (often called NACS), and can use Tesla's Supercharger network, billed through the Tesla app. At home, a Level 2 (240-volt) circuit is the usual setup.
What to check on a used Tesla Model Y
- Check the battery figure on the listing and how it is labeled: tested, displayed range, or an estimate for age and mileage.
- Open and close the power liftgate a few times and check the rear cargo floor and seat-folding latches.
- Look over the glass roof for chips and check all four tires for uneven wear.
- Make sure the touchscreen, cameras and phone key respond quickly.
- Listen for wind noise and suspension knocks on the highway and on rough pavement.
Warranty basics
Tesla covers the Model Y battery and drive unit for 8 years or 100,000 miles on Standard and RWD versions, and 8 years or 120,000 miles on Long Range, Premium and Performance versions, with at least 70% battery capacity retained over that period. Tesla's Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage counts from the car's first delivery and transfers to later owners at no cost.
Financing, trade-ins and test drives
Premium Autos offers financing: you can start a pre-qualification or credit application online, and approval, rates and terms come from the lender. We take trade-ins of any make and model and also buy cars outright, and you can submit your car online for an appraisal.
