How do you add a used Tesla to your account?

Tesla says third-party buyers must claim the vehicle in the app. Have the vehicle, Wi-Fi access and an updated app available. As checked September 17, 2026, the path is the top-right menu, then My Products and Add Product. Follow the prompts for the VIN, owner details and requested documents. Tesla describes processing as up to 48 hours; incomplete documents or verification issues can delay completion. This is not a Premium Autos completion guarantee.

What should you confirm before leaving?

Vehicle identity: compare the VIN on your paperwork with the vehicle you are collecting.

Account status: check whether your ownership request is complete or still pending, and save its confirmation.

Can you charge while the transfer is pending?

Tesla lists Destination Charging, Wall Connector, Mobile Connector and third-party stations as options during review. Check equipment compatibility and site access first. Its guidance ties full Supercharger access to completed transfer. Credits, subscriptions and some upgrades may not transfer; do not budget around a previous owner’s benefits.

Plan the first trip, not just the nearest charger

Before a pickup in Norco or South El Monte, write down your destination, a compatible charging option and a backup. Confirm opening hours, access restrictions and the equipment you actually have.
