How battery figures are labeled

Every EV listing shows a battery figure, labeled so you can tell them apart:

  • Tested is a battery capacity test on file for that exact VIN. 0 of the 5 EVs shown here have one.
  • Estimated from displayed range (shown as “Displayed range”) compares the range that exact car shows at a full charge with its original EPA rating. It is a calculation for that VIN, not a lab test. 0 of 5.
  • Typical estimate (shown as “Est. ~X%”) is the typical figure for a car of that model, age and mileage from published fleet data (TeslaTracker for Teslas, sharpened with its per-trim figures; Geotab for other EVs). It is not a measurement of the car itself, and you can request a report. 5 of 5.
  • Similar Teslas display is the full-charge range comparable used Teslas show (same trim, year and mileage), from TeslaTracker, with how many cars it is based on. It describes similar cars, not that one. 0 of 5.

What to check on a used Ford

  • Read the vehicle history report linked on each listing and ask for service records.
  • On the test drive, check the transmission shifts smoothly, the brakes feel even and the car tracks straight.
  • Check tire wear on all four corners, the air conditioning, the screen and the backup camera.
  • On electric models, check how the battery figure is labeled: tested, displayed range, or an estimate for age and mileage.

Warranty basics

Factory coverage on a used Ford depends on when it was first sold and its mileage, and some manufacturers limit parts of their coverage to the original owner. A Ford dealer can look up what remains for a specific VIN, and we can help you check before you buy.
